Stylish Bejing cuisine is one of the many qualities Philippe, by Philippe Chow prides itself on. The food at Philippe is served family-style and signature items include: Salt & Pepper Lobster, Chicken Satay, Glazed Spare Ribs, Filet Mignon with oyster sauce, and the legendary Peking Duck!
Since opening, Philippe Chow has received top culinary accolades including “Best Peking Duck” from the New York Observer and “Best in Chinese” by Zagat. In addition to the dishes that exemplify Chef Philippe Chow’s take on classic Beijing-style cuisine, Philippe has a well versed wine list, a wonderful selection of vintage champagnes, as well as undeniably delicious Lychee Martinis!
I recently dined here where I enjoyed speaking with John Villa, the new President of Philippe Chow. John is a seasoned culinary powerhouse who was previously at TAO for over ten years. His vision is to keep the best of the brand, and add in some new seasonal, vibrant dishes to enhance the brands overall menu, style, and concept. John will bring new innovation to Philipe Chow including decor, new updates, and menu enhancements. The new additions will take place this month and customers are excited to see and experience the growth of this well known restaurant brand.
“What I enjoyed most about John is that he is passionate about the industry but also finds time for work/life balance. His family is very important to him, along with his career and in the bustling NYC in the culinary industry, that can be difficult to keep up with. John is extremely pleasant and professional with a warm personality and infectious passion for what he does. I am really looking forward to seeing the new innovations!”
I started off with some Philippe customer favorites and menu staples such as the Chicken Lettuce Wraps and Peking Duck Spring Rolls. One bite and I was instantly in love with the Peking Duck and completely understand why it was voted the best! The lettuce wraps are a must order for me anywhere I go, and here they were delicious. For my mains, I enjoyed the Crispy Beef and Black Prawns, which were very flavorful and fun. These are definitely share-able, and I highly recommend ordering 3-4 menu items for a party of two or more. To end the evening in a sweet way, the most beautiful Cotton Candy Baked Alaska arrived at the table and was incredibly fun to eat. Layers of strawberry and vanilla bean ice cream make this fun sweet treat a must order while dining here! For those seeking something a bit lighter, the seasonal fruit plate is also a great share, and delectably fresh; Pastry Chef Kostas Paterakis’ will certainly wow you with the desserts here at Philippe.
For those of you who have not had the pleasure of dining at Philippe, I absolutely recommend you do so now that John Villa is President. He is keeping the best of the best on the menu and will be bringing in some new innovations that will excite, entice, and create a one of a kind dining experience you will not forget!
