IMG_1997Over in the West Village, NYC lies the coolest Jazz lounge and restaurant. The Blue Note is one of a kind when it comes to jazz performances and you will never be disappointed! Their June Jazz Festival has finally kicked off and will keep on going until the 30th, so get those tickets while you still can as the Blue Note is always crowded.

Lets talk cocktails for a moment because their drinks are quite the catch on the menu. The Blue Note Martini is smooth, citrusy, and has just the right amount of curacao. The cocktail menu is inventive with many different mixtures of spirits and liquors in their drinks, yet they are all very good. There is certainly a drink for everyone on their menu, even the wine and beer lovers will enjoy their selection of sparkling, red, and white wines as well as the domestic and imported brews. IMG_1999

The food is great at the Blue Note as the menu is filled with a wide selection of appetizers ranging from shrimp cocktail to fruit and cheese plates, while the entrees whisk you away with mouthwatering descriptions, aromas, and artistic plating. The entrees range from steaks and fish, to burgers and sandwiches, and everything always looks wonderful. I went there not too hungry,  having eaten dinner before I left, but I could not resist after seeing my table neighbor’s food, my stomach made room and I dove into the menu. IMG_2010

For dessert they have a fun selection with liquor pairing. The fresh fruit and sorbet paired with Limoncello Meletti was fantastic. From the plating to the surprise blood orange sorbet it was one simple yet impressive dish!

Friday June 6, 2013 was the night I attended where Jerry Douglas was performing. As a solo artist, band member, and collaborator, Mr. Douglas wowed the stage with his Dobro playing and was accompanied by a violinist, cellist, and percussionist. The performance was a little country jazz and wildly entertaining. The audience was so in tune with the music and everyone seemed to bop in their chairs and really enjoy the music. Jerry Douglas is not a performer you want to miss, so hopefully he will return to Blue Note soon. On the other hand for the rest of June, plenty of outstanding performers will be there for Jazz Brunch, Dinner, and 10PM shows so you cannot miss out on this exciting month. Kick off summer with Blue Note and enjoy all the fun the West Village has to offer… I dare you!
