I recently went to Osteria 57, an Italian restaurant specializing in outstanding vegetarian cuisine! For those of you that read my posts and know me, you know that I am not a vegetarian. Lately, however, I have been trying to have less meat and more fish and vegetables while dining out. I was so happy to find Osteria 57, which also serves some incredible seafood and pasta dishes!

I started out with a nice glass of Super Tuscan because it was a chilly and rainy evening in NYC when I dined here. I enjoyed looking over their wine list, where they have a nice selection of pair-able options that really match well with the dishes. Food wise, I started off with the Trilogia di Salumi, which is a sampler of Portuguese Octopus, Raw Atlantic Dogfish, and Raw Wild Alaskan Salmon Salami. It’s a great starter and perfect for sharing with tables of four or more.

After the delicious appetizer, it was time for more. The Branzino e Asparagi al Tartufo jumped off the menu page with its delicious description of Mediterranean Sea Bass, Asparagus, and Black Truffles. The truffle was a nice flavor component to the dish and didn’t overpower the fish either which I loved. Overall with the earthy and bold red wine, I chose it was still a very nice pairing.

The atmosphere here is intimate and inviting with comfortable seating, nice lighting, and great decor. It’s casual yet classy, with a nice rustic elegance and great staff. After all that seafood, it was time for some pasta! I decided on the Saffron Risotto Special, which was out of this world, delicious. The risotto is so perfectly creamy, dreamy, and delectable… honestly, I could not get enough of it! I also tried the Paccheri di Zafferano all’ Arrabbiata, which is Arrabbiata tubes with eggplant and crunchy sea bass in spicy sauce. This pasta dish is great if you enjoy something hearty, comforting, and yet playfully spicy.

This is absolutely a restaurant I would have dove into dessert at, had I not been so full of my delicious four courses prior. This gem of a restaurant on West 10th street is one not to miss out on. I highly praise Osteria 57 for their outstanding vegetarian and seafood options, which impressed and excited me. Be sure to bring your friends, family, and fellow seafood lovers to this fantastic Italian spot. You will not be disappointed!
