I recently had the pleasure of visiting Underdog Bar in the Financial District of NYC. Going downtown is always and Underdog is a delicious one. They specialize in craft cocktails and offer great menu items to pair along.
I started off with the Black Shuck cocktail, made with Jameson Black Barrel, Black Dirt Apple Brandy, Black Walnut, Punt E Mes, Mole, and Maple. It’s smooth for a cocktail that has so much in it, and I really enjoyed it with the Housemade Chips with Blue Cheese Sauce. Alongside the Black Shuck, I also tried the Roaring Lion with Angostura Rum, Pineapple Rum, Amaro, Homemade Cola, and Champagne.
The menu here has great bar bites, including the Lamb Flatbread, which is topped with arugula and warm cheese. This dish easily paired with the Irish Wit cocktail, made with Jameson Whiskey, Banana, Lillet Blanc, Island Orgeat, Lemon, and Belgian Whit Beer. This cocktail was honestly one of the best ones I have had in a while. I didn’t know what to expect when combining Jameson, Lillet, and Beer, however, the combination works so well, you wouldn’t even know you’re drinking all of those ingredients! For a larger plate, I decided to try the Bone Marrow, which was absolutely delicious. This savory dish paired with the Dublin Milk Punch, made with Tullamore Dew, Guinness, White Wine, Clarified Milk, Lemon, and Nutmeg.
