IMG_3769The East Village is home to some pretty fun dive bars, sports bars, and unique artistic restaurants. Durden Bar has been a neighborhood favorite for quite some time now and has recently gained some new additions. This bar and restaurant still has the “East Village Sports Bar” like atmosphere, but has upped it’s food and drink menu to suit the needs of those seeking something a little more than bottled beer and bar snacks. Durden is a bar, with a bar crowd and bar menu, but sometimes you just want a beer and a burger with some sports and lively atmosphere… and that’s what you get here.

IMG_3771A small menu with plenty of variety sits on each table and the bar. Craft beers, cocktails, and some wines make up the drink menu, with a fully stocked bar. I enjoyed a whiskey cocktail with some Fried Chicken Wings, Cheeseburger Spring Rolls, and Parmesan Fries. The wings were a pleasant surprise because unlike traditional buffalo wings, where they are tossed in sauce and one flavor, Durden does it differently by supplying dipping sauces. I had the choice between Buffalo and BBQ for my plate of wings, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the option to dip. The chicken was fried perfectly, not greasy, and the sauces coated the crispy fried batter beautifully.

IMG_3773The Cheeseburger Spring Rolls were an interesting item and incredibly addicting. Picture a juicy cheeseburger with all the toppings, rolled into a spring roll wrapper and accompanied by a sweet and slightly spicy sauce. The sauce made it all because once you bite into these rolls you will instantly know the flavor, but may or may not be able to pin point it right away. These rolls taste like Big Mac’s!

I kept thinking to myself, “why do I know this flavor… it taste’s like something I don’t have often but have tried before, and I can’t put my finger on it.”

IMG_3766Between my bites of spring rolls and wings, I enjoyed a large plate of Parmesan Fries which are a fun spin on the typical bar fries and an Absinthe cocktail. The cocktail was great and complimented the meal, however a craft beer from the menu selection would also pair nicely (I was just way to full for beer).

Seeking a fun and relaxed bar in the East Village? Great bar food, drinks, and a friendly staff will assure you a great time at Durden Bar NYC!
