Usually after my Monday night class at the International Wine Center, I have an hour or so to kill. I was waiting in Penn Station one night, and stumbled upon this great restaurant! Kabooz’s Bar and Grill has become my new favorite waiting destination! With fantastic food that is always very fast and the killer cosmos, I go back every week before my train home. They have a small wine list, mainly by the glass but for the size I must say that they have some nice choices!

Harold is my favorite server there. He is always so attentive and really makes it such a great experience that I am actually sad when I realize that it is time to get on the train home. The manager after seeing me one time, remembered me and now every week will stop at my table and say hello and ask how things are. It is so nice that a place this great exists inside Penn Station…. who would have thought!?

Now, about the food and drinks. The bruschetta and garlic bread was an excellent choice and so filling! The tomatoes were nice and fresh and the bread was a great touch. Now this restaurant is definitely a bar food style menu, but good bar food, which is why I constantly return.
Wine wise, I had a glass of the 2011 Mirassou Chardonnay. It exhibits intense aromas and flavors of stone fruits such as peaches and nectarines, along with tropical fruits and pineapple. The flavors continued on the nose and followed through to the palate where I noticed more melon and vanilla with a concentrated finish. The wine and the meal paired very well together. The acidity in the tomatoes and the creamy mouth feel in the wine meshed beautifully together.

I would certainly recommend this restaurant if you are in Penn Station and want some fun, food, and drinks while you wait.  They have train schedule TV’s so you always know how long you have, and it beats waiting in the common areas.
