Fall is finally here, and although many of you still want summer, this Somm is a Fall/Winter person and I could not be any more excited for the leaves to change, the crisp air, and the wines we get to pair with all our favorite comfort foods!

Here are some of my top picks for fall $15.00 and under! These sips are a steal when you consider the quality, taste and pair-ability.

Segura Viudas Cava can be great any time of year. This particular cava is citrus forward, bubbly, and oh so beautiful with some cheeses and crostini. The beautiful fall looking label combined with the pair-able options for this wine makes it great for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday seasons! $10.00

This bottle is not only beautiful for the table but Cava can be a great host or hostess gift when you’re not sure what to bring to the gathering. Light and delicate, perfectly balanced and citrus forward… Pere Ventura produces an incredible Cava!

Cool & Crisp Whites: 

image001-23Grillo, a white varietal also native to Italy (southern region of Sicily) can certainly be cozied up to this fall and paired with some beautiful meals like Pumpkin Ravioli with a Spice Cream Sauce, Beets with Burrata and Pistachios, or Truffle Arancini’s! Dalila, from sustainable Sicilian producer Stemmari, highlights this native varietal. This wine balances out with some Viognier and a light touch of oak for complexity. $13.99

Always thinking of the consumer in mind, Jean Claude’s Chardonnay is bright and floral with perfectly balanced acidity and fruit. This Chardonnay is one to love all year round, but will perfectly pair with some Pumpkin Ravioli or Turkey on your table! $10.99

Cliffhanger Vineyards Proprietary Red BlendCliffhanger makes some great wines. This particular seductive red is a blend of two of northern Italy’s indigenous grapes: Teroldego/Lagrein. This wine is a reserve-level wine that has been aged for two years and pairs well with foods like ravioli and wild mushrooms, game meats, and even curled up by the fire. $13.99

download (29)Stemmari’s CantodoroAged for nearly three years between barrel and bottle. This wine is an incredibly priced and delightful example of Sicily’s other star varietal, Nero d’Avola. Blended with a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon from the producer’s sustainably farmed estate, it makes a great companion to roasted meats and the toothsome vegetables we are starting to crave.  $13.99

2013 Steelhead Vineyards Sonoma County Pinot Noir: Yes Pinot Noir made the list because this Sonoma one is $14.99 and wonderful with your fall foods like Pot Roast, Pork Belly, Butternut Squash Soup and so much more! Medium plus bodied, bold and full of ripe red fruit; balanced and beautiful for any occasion this “not so summer anymore” season!
