Seiterre Winery is a remarkable producer that spans some of Italy’s most renowned wine regions, offering a diverse portfolio of wines that capture the essence of each terroir. From the rolling vineyards of Veneto to the mineral-rich soils of Lugana, the breathtaking landscape of Lake Garda, and the prestigious hills of Valpolicella, Seiterre covers significant ground, crafting wines that appeal to every palate. Their commitment to quality and tradition is evident in every bottle, making them a standout producer in the Italian wine scene.
My personal journey with Seiterre began years ago when I had the pleasure of tasting their wines during a media trip to Lake Garda. These experiences are invaluable, allowing me to connect with the land, the people, and the wines in a way that translates into my work. When I introduce wines at retail outlets or tastings, I can share firsthand stories of the region, the winemaking, and the incredible pairings I’ve enjoyed—bringing the full circle of experience to the consumer. Thanks to Seiterre and their USA importer for sending some samples of these wines below, because you can find these in the USA in many states, and hopefully here in Tennessee soon, as well.
A Taste of Seiterre: Wines That Speak of Place
Bardolino Chiaretto DOC – The Wine of One Night
I fell in love with Chiaretto on my visit to Lake Garda, where this rosé wine thrives. Made from Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes, Chiaretto is a fresh and fruit-forward wine, ideal for warm-weather sipping yet versatile enough to accompany a variety of dishes. Its pale pink hue, delicate floral scents, and bright citrus and wild strawberry notes make it a delightful aperitif. Pair it with creamy pasta dishes, pork, chicken, seafood, or the classic lake fish from the region.
Lugana DOC – A Striking White
The Lugana white is another standout, showcasing the elegance of the Turbiana grape grown in the clay and limestone soils near Lake Garda. This wine’s intense, bright pale yellow color hints at its lively freshness. Aromatically, it offers crunchy white fruit with strong mineral undertones, while the palate is a harmonious balance of freshness and structure. Perfect as an aperitif, it shines alongside fish dishes, shrimp cocktail, and delicate white meats.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG – A Bold and Elegant Classic
Seiterre’s Amarone is a wine that captivates with its depth and complexity. Crafted from carefully selected Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes that undergo a traditional drying process for about 100 days, this wine achieves remarkable concentration. The result is a full-bodied, velvety wine with flavors of dried plum, ripe cherry, and warm spices. Ideal for fall and winter sipping, Amarone pairs beautifully with roasts, braised meats, and hearty game dishes.
Valpolicella Ripasso – The Refined Elegance of Repassed Grapes
Ripasso, often referred to as “Baby Amarone,” is a beautifully aromatic wine that undergoes a secondary fermentation over Amarone grape skins, adding depth and complexity. This technique imparts dried fruit and spice notes, making it a perfect companion to rich dishes like risotto, roasted meats, and aged cheeses. I fell in love with the Ripasso and its ideal freshness and fruit for cooler nights and summer grilling pairings.
Rosso Veronese – A Smooth and Sophisticated Red
This Rosso Veronese IGT blends Corvina, Rondinella, and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in large barrels for six months before bottling. With floral and ripe fruit aromas accented by hints of vanilla and spice, it offers a soft yet persistent finish. Perfectly suited for red meats, roasted dishes, and robust vegetable risottos. I loved this with some grilled pork chops and steaks from Light Hill Meats, in Spring Hill, TN. This wine is so approachable with everything from pasta and meat sauce to lasagna, to grilled meats, hearty short ribs, and even leaner game like bison and venison.
Barbera: A Hidden Gem of Seiterre
Seiterre’s Barbera is a delightful expression of this beloved Piedmont grape, showcasing deep ruby hues and vibrant acidity. With aromas of ripe red berries, plums, and a touch of spice, this wine offers a beautifully balanced palate of juicy fruit and smooth tannins. Its versatility makes it a perfect pairing for rich pasta dishes, roasted meats, and aged cheeses, offering a bold yet approachable character that wine lovers will appreciate.
Bringing It All Together
Years ago, I had the pleasure of tasting Seiterre’s Garda DOC sparkling wine, an outstanding example of how this winery masterfully crafts wines across various styles. I paired it with a creamy cauliflower and corn soup with grilled shrimp, and the result was an unforgettable pairing. These wines are not just a testament to Italy’s winemaking prowess but also to the experiences and memories they create around the table. Seiterre’s wines bring the beauty of Italy to the glass, offering a taste of regions that I have been fortunate to explore firsthand. If you’re looking to discover a diverse, high-quality Italian wine producer, Seiterre is a name to remember.
