Italy, oh how I love thee! Everything about Italy is magical, and I have been sipping a lot of Italian wines this year due to an increase in marketing, as well as tastings, and also while planning my own trip in May there. There’s always something new to taste when it comes to Italian wines, and I found myself re-visiting wines I haven’t had since I was studying for my wine exams.
I always enjoy Sicilian wines because they are uniquely different and have a finesse that’s so incredible. One winery I love from Sicily is Corvo, a classic winery with a history of almost 200 years! They have been producing easy to drink wines from native grape varietals that make Sicily the amazing region it is today. Corvo showcases Sicilian winemaking tradition as well as the beauty and power of the terroir. I had the pleasure of tasting two of their wines, the Corvo Grillo and Irmàna Frappato. These are ideal for spring sipping and also summer, because nothing says “poolside sip” than a bottle of chilled Grillo or even a chilled Frappato! These wines have floral notes that are so very distinct with hints of herbal notes too.
These wines are great for the upcoming grilling season, and pair nicely with a variety of cuisines and dishes.

Corvo Grillo Sicilia DOC 2020- This is a fun native grape of Sicily that has amazing aromas of flowers, citrus and minerality. The acidity is very refreshing and it’s great for the warmer days ahead when you want something to sit back and relax with. It’s a spring sipper that’s for sure, and would be ideal paired with goat cheese salads, avocado toast, seafood, and even some spring soups! The price is also unbeatable, you’ll probably want a case to sip all spring. $9.99
Corvo Irmàna Frappato Terre Siciliane IGT 2020- A truly underrated grape when it comes to consumer drinking wines, I find myself even saying “I don’t drink Frappato enough” every single time I taste it! This beauty is made from hand-picked Frappato grapes, and you can taste it’s carefully crafted elegance. Irmàna is an great expression of what Frappato is, reflecting all the minerality, terroir, and winds this region has to offer. This wine is really nice, and honestly Frappato is one of those varietals that can benefit from a bit of a chill, so don’t be afraid to put it in an ice bucket for like 10 minutes. It’s velvety and very smooth, and it’s lightness is very refreshing and ideal for afternoon sipping or early evening. I love this wine with tapas and appetizers, as well as brunch or like that 5pm by the pool sunset sipping! This lighter red has aromas of florals like violets and hints of rose. I love it with cheeses, meats, and fish but it’s also a perfect picnic wine so grab some grain salads, charcuterie and cheeses and head out for a picnic this spring! $12.99
