Back-to-school season always seems to put snacks front and center. Lunchboxes need packing, after-school hunger hits like clockwork, sports bags need something tucked inside, and somehow everyone is hungry again five minutes after getting home.
But here’s my question: what about the mom snacks? The snacks you actually want to eat after a long day. The ones you can put out when a friend stops by, bring to a casual get-together, or turn into a quick little wine-and-snack situation without cooking an entire meal.
That is where Craize Snacks caught my attention. Inspired by the Latin American arepa, Craize takes corn and transforms it into a thin, toasted cracker crisp. The lineup includes flavors ranging from savory Everything and Jalapeño Lime to Sweet Corn, Coconut and Guava. They’re made with olive oil rather than seed oils, and they’re certified gluten-free and vegan. Most importantly for me, though, they’re genuinely fun to pair. And when I say pair, I obviously mean we’re opening some wine.

Guava + Jam: The Unexpected Sweet Bite
I wasn’t quite sure where I wanted to take the Guava Craize at first, but then I added a spoonful of local Tennessee jam.
That was it. The tropical, lightly sweet Guava cracker with the fruitiness of the jam created this incredibly easy sweet-and-savory snack that felt much more interesting than the amount of work it required. Craize actually recommends pairing the Guava crackers with everything from soft cheese and berries to fruit salsa and other sweet spreads, so apparently I was onto something.
For wine, I would reach for Chenin Blanc or Pinot Noir.
A Chenin Blanc with bright acidity and ripe orchard or stone-fruit notes can play beautifully with the sweetness of the jam without making the entire pairing feel heavy. Pinot Noir takes it in another direction. Its red-fruit character can echo a berry-based jam while remaining light enough not to overwhelm the Guava cracker.
Honestly, put out the crackers, two different local jams and a soft cheese, pour the wine, and you have a pretty adorable girls’ night snack with almost zero preparation.

Jalapeño Lime + Guacamole
This may be my favorite of the bunch. The Jalapeño Lime Craize has that combination I always love: heat, acidity and crunch. The crackers combine jalapeño with lime, garlic, onion and cilantro, so guacamole is practically asking to be invited to the party. Craize recommends them with guacamole, salsa and taco-style dips as well.
Give me a bowl of fresh guacamole, a bag of these and a cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc, and I am happy.
Sauvignon Blanc makes sense here because that bright acidity and citrus-driven personality works with the lime, while its fresh herbal qualities are right at home alongside avocado and cilantro.
Chenin Blanc is another great option, particularly something dry with plenty of acidity. It has enough personality to stand up to the jalapeño while still being incredibly food-friendly.
This is also exactly the kind of snack I want when people are coming over and I don’t want to “host.” There is a difference. Sometimes we don’t need a tablescape and six appetizers. We need guacamole, crackers and wine.

Sweet Corn + All the Dips
The Sweet Corn Craize might be the ultimate crowd-pleaser because its flavor is simple enough to work with so many different toppings and dips. The crackers have a lightly sweet, toasted corn flavor, and the company recommends them with everything from guacamole and salsa to queso and other creamy or savory spreads.
I went straight into party-snack territory with a street corn dip and Mexicali dip.
Perfect. The sweetness of the corn plays against creamy, salty and spicy flavors beautifully, and this is one pairing where I wouldn’t overthink the wine.
Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir or Gamay could all have a place here depending on what you’re dipping into.
For something spicy and fresh, lean Sauvignon Blanc. For creamy and corn-forward, try Chenin Blanc. If the dip has some smoky or savory flavors going on, a lightly chilled Pinot Noir or Gamay could be incredibly fun.
Put several dips in the middle of the table, open a couple bags of Sweet Corn Craize and let everyone snack. Done.

Everything Crackers Deserve an Everything Board
Naturally, the Everything Craize needed an everything kind of board.
I added jam, roasted vegetables, cheeses and meats and basically let the board become whatever I wanted it to be. That’s the beauty of this style of snacking. There doesn’t have to be a strict theme.
The Everything crackers themselves bring sesame, poppy seed, onion and garlic into the mix, giving them enough savory flavor to stand on their own while still working as a base for dips and toppings.
For this board, I’m pouring Gamay. If you want one of those wines you can place in the middle of a complicated snack board and not spend twenty minutes worrying about every individual pairing, Gamay is one of my favorites. Its bright fruit, refreshing acidity and generally lighter body make it incredibly useful when your board has a little bit of everything happening.
Cheese? Yes. Charcuterie? Absolutely. Roasted vegetables? Yep. Jam? It can handle that too.
Everything-seasoned corn crackers? Pass me another one. Serve your Gamay slightly chilled and you have an easy transition from warm late-summer evenings straight into early fall.
The Wines I Keep Around for Snack Season
There are certain grapes I continually come back to when I know there will be lots of different flavors on the table: Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Gamay.
They’re not identical, obviously, but each has characteristics that make it particularly useful around food. Instead of trying to find one highly specific bottle for one highly specific dish, these are the grapes I reach for when the table is covered in dips, crackers, cheeses, vegetables, fruit, jam and whatever else made its way out of the refrigerator.
Because that is how most of us actually snack.
And that’s what I liked about Craize. These aren’t crackers that need a complicated recipe built around them. They’re thin, crunchy corn crisps that can go into a lunchbox, sit next to a bowl of guacamole, become the base of a sweet bite with local jam, or take the place of traditional crackers on a full wine-night grazing board.
Back-to-school season may technically be about the kids, but I’m officially voting for back-to-school snacks for the adults, too. Open the crackers. Open the wine. The homework can wait five minutes.
