Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of tasting through the wines of Tenute Tomasella, an extraordinary winery located between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto—two regions that define elegance, diversity, and pure Italian heart. And let me tell you… wow. These wines are stunning.
There’s something magical about Italian wines. Maybe it’s the way every grape tells a story, or how there’s always a perfect bottle for every mood, meal, and moment. Whether you’re cooking a cozy dinner at home, planning a grand feast, or simply wanting to sip and dream of Italy, there’s always a wine that fits—and Tenute Tomasella captures that spirit beautifully.
Tenute Tomasella sits on a unique borderland where the soils of Friuli meet the breezes of Veneto. This blend of clay, limestone, and mineral-rich terrain gives their wines both freshness and structure. The winemaking team balances tradition with innovation—respecting the land, nurturing biodiversity, and crafting wines that are expressive yet refined. Every bottle feels thoughtfully made—driven by the winery’s philosophy of harmony, patience, and respect for terroir.
The Friulano 2024 was a showstopper of balance and body, bursting with stone fruit, pear, and delicate floral
notes. There’s a gentle almond finish typical of the grape, wrapped in creamy texture and bright acidity. I paired this with shrimp, but it would be equally divine with a creamy butternut squash soup or saffron-chanterelle risotto. It’s the warmth of fall captured in a glass.
Then there’s the Prò Prosecco Rosé—hands down, one of my favorite sparkling rosés this year. It’s alive, bursting with wild strawberry, raspberry, and a hint of candied citrus. It’s not sweet, but beautifully balanced, with that perfect dance between fruit and bubble. This wine absolutely sparkles with joy and sophistication.
The 2022 Rigole Rosso, a blend of Merlot and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, commands attention. Deep and mature, it layers dark plum, blackberry, and cocoa, finishing with silky tannins and a whisper of dark chocolate. It’s luxurious, complex, and endlessly pairing-friendly—think lamb
ribs, red radicchio risotto, or aged cheeses.
Another standout was the Chinomoro which is a Merlot Chinato. It’s a bittersweet, aromatic red with notes of herbs, cooked fruit, and cocoa. I enjoyed it alongside a berry puff pastry drizzled with my Coratina Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and the pairing was nothing short of divine. The herbal, deep, and rich, complexity of the wine complemented the dessert’s sweetness beautifully.
Tenute Tomasella offers more than wine—they offer experiences. Whether you’re visiting their estate to explore the vineyards, learn about winemaking, or simply sip among the
vines, the hospitality and artistry shine through. Their wines are also available to ship directly, making it easy to bring a little piece of Italian craftsmanship home.
Tenute Tomasella embodies everything I adore about Italian wine—soul, substance, and style. These are wines that remind you why Italy will forever hold your palate and your heart.
